Margaret Dabrowska, I was born and raised in Krakow. I graduated in Management and Marketing in Poland and in Norway in the field of accounting. I am still learning and trying to stay up to date with the regulations, which is very important, especially when working in politics.
First steps in Norway
I came to Norway 16 years ago - first I lived in Frøya, after a year I moved to Oslo and then to Svelvik. Like most of us, I came to Norway to join my husband who worked here. The beginnings were not easy - no language, no job and no friends. Only after a few years did I feel at home here, I know from my own experience how big a challenge it is to move to another country and I know what challenges we face here.
Politics
The proposal to join Drammen Venstre appeared at the end of last year - it was interesting but required reflection, so I decided to join in January 2023 and work actively from March.
Priorities
We work together on issues that concern national minorities in Drammen Kommune, and for me the most important thing is to take care of Polish issues. In our program as point no. 1 we have improved access to free or cheaper Norwegian language courses. A very important topic is also dealing with matters related to D-numbers - I am starting a dialogue with NAV on this and other issues. Labor Code, instructions on how to handle simple matters, which should also be available in Polish. Some of us work here as pendlers and for this reason they do not learn the language and have to deal with formal matters in person. Easier access to primary care physician, discrimination and racism are just some of the issues we deal with and will continue to deal with. We are the largest national minority in Norway and that is why we need our voice to be heard!
Our situation in Norway
The Polish community in Drammen, Oslo, Viken and Norway in general is great and is developing in many areas. We have a strong group of specialists - builders, healthcare professionals, economists, lawyers, artists and representatives of many professions. I will always repeat one thing: let's support and cooperate!
Family: married, 2 sons - 10 and 18 years old
