Support fits in Nansen program , which the Storting adopted by an overwhelming majority in March. With support from the World Bank, Norway helps ensure that Ukrainian homes have access to electricity, Ukrainian classrooms have teachers, and Ukrainian men, women and children can get the health care they need.

– Ukraine's need for financial support is large and growing. Our support will help alleviate the economic and social crisis that Ukrainians are living in, says Støre. He emphasized that the World Bank mobilized large and rapid assistance to support Ukraine, demonstrating a proven ability to act.

The Prime Minister met with the President World Bank Ajay Banga. The topic of the meeting was support for Ukraine, financing activities related to climate change and the need for increased investments in renewable energy.

Support in line with Ukrainian priorities

Norway bases its support on Ukraine's own priorities. The Ukrainian authorities want to ensure the functioning of the country and the provision of basic services, and this requires public investment in repairing important infrastructure.

- Russia's aggressive war and targeted destruction of Ukraine's infrastructure lead to great destruction and unimaginable suffering every day. Supporting the Ukrainian authorities in repairing and operating civilian infrastructure is an important contribution to the struggle of Ukrainians, says Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt. It emphasizes the need for continued close coordination with the EU, other donor countries and international organizations to ensure the best possible assistance to Ukraine.

The money is invested through a new financing facility at the World Bank and complements Norway's NOK 2 billion contribution announced in March to functioning of the Ukrainian state.

Great collective support in response to Ukraine's great needs

Norway has already provided budget support of NOK 300 million to Ukraine through the World Bank. Additionally, NOK XNUMX billion will be spent on repairing damaged infrastructure such as power grids, roads and railways.

The World Bank quickly provided significant support to the Ukrainian authorities after Russia attacked the country. So far, over USD 37,5 billion has been transferred to Ukraine. On March 14, the Storting adopted Nansen's program supporting Ukraine. The support package has a scope of NOK 75 billion for a period of five years (2023-27). In 2022, Norway provided approximately NOK 10,7 billion in civilian and military support to Ukraine. Approximately NOK 2023 billion has been allocated for 18,5.
