In recent days, the Norwegian Tax Office has received many reports that self-employed people have been defrauded electronically.

The emails sent allegedly concern "business tax refunds" and were sent to the correct contact number/organization.

– New fraud attempts are constantly emerging. Now fraudsters are speculating that a "tax refund" might be welcomed, says Swedish Tax Agency's chief security officer Ragna Fossen.

While the scam may seem legitimate, it emphasizes that the IRS never sends unsolicited links via email or text message.

— the best protection against fraud is to go to skatteetaten.no or altinn.no yourself and log in there. All our electronic communications with taxpayers, which include sensitive information, take place after logging in via the websites skatteetaten.no and altinn.no, says Fossen.

Tax authorities they take these types of fraud attempts seriously and regularly report them to the police.
