The energy-smart city of Trondheim
To provide enough electricity for new businesses and to phase out fossil energy, we need to use the energy we have more wisely. Interaction between energy systems

– Our forecasts indicate an increase in electricity consumption by 2030, which means an increase of 10-30%. compared to today's level in Trondheim. In Trondheim, Statkraft has been relieving pressure for over 40 years energy network, providing the city with surplus energy via the district heating network. Today, heating covers approximately 1/3 of the city's energy demand, which is especially important on the coldest days, when the load on the power grid is greatest.
– We use surplus energy from the incineration of waste, sewage and industry – energy that would otherwise be wasted, says Ove Berggård from Statkraft. In Trondheim, we laid 40 km of district heating pipes, which cover large ones parts of the city. We will continue to connect new buildings to heating network and we see the potential for even better use of the city's energy surpluses, he says.
The goal is energy-smart urban development
