Helge Orten, head of the parliamentary Committee on Transport and Communications. Politician Høyre thinks it's new fees will translate into greater fairness “on the roads”:
“I think it's a good idea to explore the possibility of introducing changes to the system road tolls. New technology can help improve the situation both in terms of who pays, but also what type of cars are taxed.” (conversation with Nattevisen
“We can inform the driver where the low-emission zone is currently located. This way, if he drives, for example, a hybrid car, I can force or encourage him to change to an electric drive. We believe that thanks to this we will achieve better air quality in the centers of large cities.”
Highway tolls in Norway. New application - new possibilities
From the application level, you can check, among other things, whether drivers opt for ecological solutions or avoid these zones. However, the very idea of monitoring drivers is controversial. The truth is, drivers enter the program themselves.
“Drivers joining the project will receive a screen installed in their car and a starting amount on their account. The money will be deducted as you move around different zones of the city, and at the end of the project, the amount remaining on the driver's account will be paid to him. No one will end up in the red.” Arnesen assures.
It is worth noting that all data will be used only for the purposes of the project.
