Is it worth inserting a photo in a CV in Norway? It has been a well-known issue for a long time that each country has its own customs. It is worth remembering one basic rule - placing your photo in your CV will allow us to establish the first contact with a potential employer.

Photo in CV in Norway - when to insert?

Is it worth inserting photo in CV in Norway? Before answering this question, it is worth considering the role of such a document. First of all, let's remember the key point - our professional résumé is a response to a job advertisement. So let's carefully review such an advertisement so as not to commit misstep right at the beginning.

CV med picture

It happens that the employer puts the following information in the advertisement: "CV med bilde (...)" (CV with photo), which means, that CV without photo will be rejected without reading its content first. The requirement to place photos in the CV applies primarily to positions related to direct contact with the client, beneficiary, ward, etc.

Photo in CV in Norway - what should it be?

When you decide to insert photos, it is good to use a photography that will be our advantage. It doesn't have to be an ID photo taken by a professional photographer. Taking advantage of technological developments, you can use an ordinary phone with a built-in camera.

The most important question, however, is that it presents us in a favorable light. It is not recommended to add e.g. cut-out photos from a group photo or add graphics that make us look tired, depressed or intoxicated.

Photo size

There are no hard and fast rules regarding the dimension photos in the CV. Of course, it shouldn't take up half or even at least 1/3 of the document area. It is important that its size is consistent with the aesthetics of the entire CV. Importantly, the photo should be clear, adequate to positionsfor which we are applying and should not override the content of our document.

Norway is a country where selecting a candidate for a position on the basis of, inter alia, his image in the CV, is not burdened with legal consequences due to discrimination. Therefore, it is all the more worthwhile to ensure that picture presented us in the best light possible.
