Irish airlines are back in the spotlight. Soon we could hear about the controversy with their participation, which concerned the planned changes in prices for luggage. This time, workers threaten with a strike.
The date of the strike is known
This is not the first time an airline has experienced a workers' strike. The company is known for optimizing costs along the lowest line of resistance, and for not complying with European labor laws and only complying with Ireland. Today there was a conference attended by trade unions from five countries, ie Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Belgium. The strike was announced for September 28 and will last 24 hours.
The causes of the trouble
Ryanair, despite many negotiations and talks it has held with unions, still does not want to apply various labor laws that are in force in the given country of origin of the employee. The airline insists on applying only the conditions of employment laws that are in force in Ireland, which means that the working Pole is bound by Irish law, not Polish law. This is the main cause and source of many conflicts and strikes on the part of the company's staff.
Taking a position
Unfortunately, the fact that Ryanair does not care much about the announced strike is evidenced by the fact that there is still no news or information from the company that would show any position on this matter. Maybe the reason is that this is not the first time this has happened in the history of these airlines. Last Wednesday, due to the protest of German employees, Ryanair had to cancel more than half of the scheduled flights, which cost them a considerable amount of money, but also a loss of good image.
Promise
As we can read on Wikimedia Commons CC BY-SA, Ryanair promised employees to change their contracts some time ago. The conditions are to be changed by 2022, but for employees it is far too far away and they want the changes to be introduced in 2019.
