Very often there are many changes at the beginning of a new year. This was also the case with unemployment benefits. From January 1, new rules for calculating benefits apply. If you are unemployed, you are protected by a so-called safety net. Provides you now 62,4% the income you received before you became unemployed. The unemployed person can still apply for an unemployment benefit which is the average income from the last three years. Depending on which of these options is more favorable to him, he can choose this form. Both amounts should be sufficient to cover the most important expenses. However, it is important to remember. Income in excess of six times the basic insured amount, which is currently NOK 581,298, is not included in the benefit base.

New rules for calculating the premium

If the unemployed person chose to calculate the contribution according to the average income of the three calendar years ending until the New Year, then the limit of 6G would apply. However, on January 1, there was a change. According to the Ministry of Labor, Social Rights and Nav, now income from each working year is reduced to 6G. In other words, the limit of 6G applies from the New Year. For each of the last three years that we have worked, then an average is calculated.

Unemployment benefits in Norway. How does it actually look like?

The best solution is to present the change with an example. Suppose we earned 2015 kronor in 200. 000 brought us an income of NOK 2016, and 1 brought us again 400. Then the sum of the three years of income is NOK 000, which is an average of NOK 2017. Under the old rules, your average will be reduced to 200G and set at NOK 000. The new rules lower our income to 1G each from three years. This means that if we take into account the above-mentioned annual earnings. This is 800 income of NOK 000. It will be reduced to the amount of 600G (in 000 it was 6 581,298 NOK). Under the new rules, our average revenue is then NOK 6. Please note that these are simplified and sample data.

When am I entitled to unemployment benefit?
