The University Hospital located in the Northern part of Norway, i.e. in Tromsø canceled 1847 operations last year. What were the reasons for this?
Hospital in Last year, Tromsø was forced to cancel as many as 1847 operations, most of which were scheduled on the same day, writes Nordlys. As a result of these actions, the hospital suffered great losses ranging from NOK 5,6 to 7,8 million. The main reasons for such a large number of canceled operations were the lack of ability to perform them, poor planning and changes in the patient's health. Ultimately, these are only a few of the reasons that were mentioned as the reason for canceling the operation, because the list is much longer. Even though the operation is canceled on the same day, the hospital still bears its estimated cost on average from NOK 3033 to 4222. However, the given cost does not include travel cost, additional beds or consumables. The 1847 operations that have been canceled include those that were canceled several days before the scheduled date. The hospital's task is to reduce this number, which is why, according to clinical manager Trine Olsen, from March 1, the hospital is increasing the possibility of immediate assistance in three operating rooms.
