for winter fishing.

The fishing industry (fiskerinæringa) is considering how to get enough workers for winter fishing. Nav ministers and director hope that the Norwegian workforce will solve the need for these staff.

Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Henrik Asheim. And the Minister of Fisheries and Seafood, Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen, and Nav Director Hans Christian Holte. They met on Monday with representatives of the fishing industry. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how they can meet the manpower requirements for fishing this winter.

- Currently 195 people are totally unemployed, partially unemployed and jobseekers. It is extremely important (det er extremt viktig) that we now make the most of the available Norwegian workforce. It is especially important for the current unemployed to be able to work. Using domestic workers instead of foreign workers will also reduce the risk of importing coronavirus infections, says Labor and Social Affairs Minister Henrik Asheim.

The topic of the meeting (temaet for møtet) was, among other things, how to increase recruitment workers to the fishing sector from among the unemployed in Norway. Some in the fishing industry have expressed concerns that there is not enough labor for winter fishing. Several companies emphasized the need to find people with the right skills and experience.

- Part of the demand for manpower can be solved by unemployed Norwegians who find a job in the fishing industry. Several ministries and agencies work closely together. The goal is to help companies reduce dependence on foreign labor during the coronavirus pandemic. This is both for infection control and to avoid production downtime, says Minister of Fisheries and Seafood, Odd Emil Ingebrigtsen.

NAV can help

Nav is ready and able to help current fishing industry candidates. It offers training in several forms, such as short-term courses. It also has the option of coverage travel costs and removals.

- Working in the fishing industry is especially important for jobseekers who live in areas where job vacancies are advertised. At the same time, it is also important for jobseekers from other parts of the country. It is important that anyone who is unemployed or made redundant makes use of existing job opportunities. All work experiences in your CV will make you more attractive on the job market, says Nav director Hans Christian Holte.
