More than half of the sickest patients with Covid-19 in the hospitals of Helse Sør-Øst constitute the unvaccinated group.
Of the patients hospitalized in intensive care units with Covid-19 disease, 56 percent are unvaccinated. This is shown by updated data from hospitals in the south-eastern part of Norway.
"There are a large majority of Covid-19 patients who have not been vaccinated, which tells us the vaccine protects well against serious diseases," says Health South-East deputy general manager Jan Frich.
Jan Frich believes it is crucial for more people to accept the vaccine offer in order to ease the pressure on hospitals.
"A relatively small number of unvaccinated people can play a decisive role in how quickly we get out of this serious situation," says Frich.
The deputy chief executive said vaccinated people could also be seriously ill. Usually, however, these people have comorbidities.
Frich says that the most seriously ill are in all age groups. Among COVID-19 patients admitted to intensive care units, 20 percent have a weak immune system. Of the sickest, 21 percent received two doses of the vaccine, and only 2,6 percent received three doses.
- Almost no one who is healthy and fully vaccinated has a serious illness. We encourage as many people as possible to get vaccinated and take a refreshing dose as soon as possible, says Frich.
