A new artificial intelligence curriculum will strengthen students' critical understanding of media. The program is being developed by the Norwegian Media Authority in cooperation with Nasjonal digital læringsarena (NDLA) and will be part of the government's action plan ahead of the autumn elections.

Norwegian Media Authority with a new curriculum on artificial intelligence
One of the topics in the curriculum is choices and the use of AI to exert political influence. The target group are high school students.
– When AI can be used to create both text, images, audio and video, attention should be paid to how this can be used for disinformation. Such knowledge can help prevent undue influence, for example in connection with elections, says director Mari Velsand of the Norwegian Media Authority.
Check who is behind it
In addition to a new education program on artificial intelligence, the Norwegian Media Authority is relaunching the campaign stopp. Tenk. Sekk. before the fall elections. The aim of the campaign is to strengthen the critical understanding of the media in society, especially with regard to source criticism and the possibility of unmasking disinformation.
"If a message seems too strange, evokes strong feelings, or tries to influence you, you should find out who's behind it before you spread it," says Velsand. The campaign is also promoted on the platforms of the Directorate for Social Security and Preparedness (DSB), and other collaborating partners include Faktisk.no and the National Association of Local Newspapers (LLA).
Culture of digital debate
The Norwegian Media Authority is also using the upcoming elections to strike at the good culture of digital debate and is planning its own social media campaign on the subject.
The measure implemented by the Norwegian Media Authority is part of the government's action plan to secure the elections. Although the Norwegian authorities have not previously detected attempts to unduly influence elections in Norway, are aware that such activity may be taking place. Therefore, the government has developed a number of measures to prevent undue influence before, during and after the elections.
