The former president of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) was sentenced. The district court in Buskerud sentenced him to 3 years and 1 month in prison for gross corruption.
In 2023, Økokrim issued an indictment in the case of a Norwegian who was president of the IBU (International Biathlon Union) from 1993 to 2018. The indictment concerned cases committed in 2009-2018. It included bribes in the form of watches, hunting stays, hunting trophies, prostitutes and two leasing cars that he managed from 2011 to 2018 in Norway.

Person responsible for prosecution in this case, state prosecutor Marianne Djupesland, says the verdict is important for the fight against corruption, both in Norway and internationally.
– The verdict is also an important signal that corruption is detected and prosecuted, also in international sports federations – says the first prosecutor.
– There is a lot of money in circulation in top international sports. Confederations manage large financial assets and make decisions that are important for both athletes and the business world. We hope that this judgment will raise awareness and have a preventive effect, says Djupesland.
