In Poland, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and the second cause of cancer death. In every third patient, it develops to an advanced form. The topic of cancer is often a taboo, but even its advanced stage allows you to lead a relatively normal life. Next to the right one support is of great importance here loved ones, especially your partner. The BreastFit campaign explains why it is important and how to support the sick wisely. Woman's breasts. Men's Matter", the second edition of which has just started.

Breast cancer

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. We record approx. 17 thousand new cases per year. This is a cancer with a good prognosis, but inevitably some patients will have it recurrence. We record approximately 6 cases annually. deaths due to this. Relapse may occur late, even decades later - points out in an interview with the Newseria Biznes news agency, prof. Jacek Jassem, oncologist from the Medical University of Gdańsk.

In Poland, breast cancer develops to an advanced stage at around the age of 30 proc. sick. In 5-10 percent it is diagnosed when the disease has already metastasized to other organs. As the expert points out, the problem in In Poland it is relatively late disease detection. It is necessary to raise women's awareness of the need to undergo screening tests, free of charge for all women aged 50–69, and in the case of disease detection – visit a specialized center with appropriate equipment and experience.

Treatment situation

W Poland treatment results are approximately 10%. worse than in other countries, this is due to the fact that, firstly, rak is recognized later, and secondly, the treatment options are slightly smaller. Of course we would like to have all the new medicines available in some countries. In Poland they appear gradually, but it would be worth it have a few more of these in yours arsenal – says prof. Jacek Jassem.

Cancer is the second most common disease after circulatory diseases cause of death in Poland. However, it is still often a taboo topic and the diagnosis is treated as a sentence. However, cancer does not always mean death, because thanks to quick diagnostics and modern therapies, cancer increasingly is a chronic disease.

– The more often we talk about the fact that well-managed cancer, even at an advanced stage, allows us to live a normal life, go to the working, the sooner society will accept such people around it and treat them normally, because I think we all need it, especially sick people - notes Agata Polińska, vice president of the board of the 'Alivia' Youth Cancer Foundation

Sick women need the support of family and friends. Especially an important role rests on partnerswho often motivate us to continue fighting, comfort us and try to bring normality to our home.

Lekarze

– There is a role for men doubly important in our reality, because doctors are usually men. When there is no man at the woman's side, the dialogue with the doctor is sometimes incomplete. When a partner appears, the doctor feels that he is treating not only the partner, but also her entire family and knows that the patient can count on her partner. It is also an important aspect for a doctor - to know that if he sends a person home after chemotherapy, he will have someone who will make at least a cup of tea. - explains Agata Polińska.

There is still a stereotype in society that breast cancer is only a women's issue, and men need to be kept away from the disease as much as possible. However, experts argue that the role of men cannot be overestimated, especially since they are often the ones who detect it changes in the partner's breast, and their support is an important element of the therapy.

The second edition of the “BreastFit. Feminine bust. A Man's Affair, whose partner is Novartis Oncology, is designed to help men join the breast cancer prevention process and support them when they face their partner's disease.

When kobieta falls ill and the cancer is diagnosed early, it is worth involving the entire family, including the man, in the treatment process. A particularly difficult moment is the diagnosis of an advanced disease. Both the woman and the man need support – emphasizes Anna Kupiecka, president of the Foundation OnkoCafe – Razem Better, organizer of the campaign.
