Compensation for an accident at work - the law

The right to compensation for an accident at work is regulated by Norwegian law. It is regulated by the Compensation Act. Its authors have quite precisely specified who is covered by this legal act. The act refers to "employees", and this term is understood as meaning any person providing services to the employer. Thus, entrepreneurs are excluded from the right to compensation for an accident at work.

How to get compensation?

Are you injured in an accident at work? You are owed compensation. The first step you should take to obtain it, is to inform the employer's social security institution and insurance company immediately. However, if the company is not insured, you should inform the Oslo Workplace Injury Insurance Association. At the same time, it should be remembered that such notification should be made in writing.

When are you entitled to compensation?

The Compensation Act clearly specifies the range of injuries that qualify for compensation. These include, in particular, diseases and injuries acquired "at work, at work and during work". Typical injuries of this type include the following: cuts, crush injuries, falls injuries and much more.

Occupational diseases include mainly skin diseases or lung diseases. The most important condition, however, is that the injury or illness suffered must arise from work or the work environment. But above all, in the time and place of work.

The amount of compensation

The amount of compensation we claim will be different in each case. Because this is determined by the fact that the amount is calculated on the basis of a number of criteria. In particular, the following are considered: present and future expenses, losses related to the loss of income - present and future, permanent health impairment (minimum 15% disability).

Individual victims may also apply for reimbursement of medical expenses and other costs related to the social insurance system. Therefore, it is worth keeping all receipts and invoices - it will help in estimating the losses incurred while preparing the letter.

It is worth knowing that free legal aid in Norway is entitled to, inter alia, people injured as a result of an accident at work. It should be remembered that while there is such a possibility, there are some quantifiable financial constraints. Is there any entitlement to free legal aid in Norway? In such cases, and depend on the achieved income, which may not exceed:

NOK 246 per person per year

NOK 369 per family per year.
