The Norwegian Statistical Office, commissioned by the Progress Party, prepared new data on employment among emigrants. They revealed the uninteresting situation of women in Norway. It is the worst among immigrants from Syria and Somalia.

10 percent of Syrian women work

According to commissioned statistics, only 10 percent of Syrian women and 16 percent of Somali women work more than 30 hours a week. These are much worse results than in previous publications. Another method of collecting data is also important - until now, SSB treated anyone who worked more than an hour a week as a "working person". Latest statistics however, they show how many of these people do not even come close to full-time employment.

SSB bends the actual image

In an interview with Nettavisen, Erlend Wiborg from the Progress Party, he argued that the data currently published by the SSB did not provide information about the reality of the labor market. The latest report commissioned by Frp shows the actual level of employment in various social groups. In his opinion, there is a clear difference between official statistics and how it all looks in practice.

The differences are significant

In order to better illustrate the differences in the reports, it is enough to state that, according to the current method, 24 percent from Syria and 38 percent from Somalia work more than an hour a week. This percentage drops dramatically when using the definition that an employed person is one who works more than 30 hours a week. Such women are respectively: 10 percent from Syria and 16 percent from Eritrea.

Western immigrants work more

It also turns out that the norm for Western emigrants is that 60 percent of them find full-time employment. People who came to Norway from Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan work much less. These differences are only fully visible in the latest report commissioned by the Progress Party.

How to improve their situation?

Bearing in mind the above information, actions taken, among others, should not be surprising. via the Center for Immigrants in Levangerwhich are aimed at increasing the professional activity of immigrant women. They developed an extremely effective method of learning Norwegian based on a communicative approach. Only after mastering the art of communicating in this language, one learns to write and read. The effects are so surprising that the Center decided to implement this solution as a permanent element of the offer.
