From March 1, the rules will change on how much rust you can have on your brake discs and still get an EU inspection. So in the future, being a landlord electric car can be much cheaper. Bilbransje24 and Elbil24 were the first to report on this matter.
So far, EU regulations have allowed up to 25 percent surface rust on all four brake discs of a car. Now the rules for rear brakes are relaxed where 50 percent is allowed.
Rusty rear brakes were the enemy of both hybrid and electric cars. They use electric motors to brake and do not apply the brakes as often as other cars. In addition, the brakes on all cars are set to give the best possible effect to the front wheels. As a result, the rear brakes are less used, especially on electric cars.
It can save both the environment and your wallet
The most important question is how much will this affect the tested in practice. Frydenlund points out that the change is unlikely to have a particular impact on traffic safety, and will also have a positive impact on both the environment and the wallet.
– Replacing front or rear discs it usually costs between 4000 and 6000 crowns, explains Frydenlund.

The electric car association's test manager says that since the requirement for less than 25 percent rust on the front discs remains unchanged, there may still be discussions about brake discs, while the rear discs get through the inspection more easily.
However, it points to another change:
More and more manufacturers are moving away from disc brakes on the rear of their electric cars in favor of traditional drum brakes. This can probably be found a bit awkward, but the choice means the brakes are better protected against external loads.
