After four days of wage negotiations, LO YS broke off talks with NHO on Thursday, March 30. According to LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik, the majority of workers experienced higher price increases than wages for two years. Therefore, the main demand of LO is to ensure that employees participate in value creation and increased purchasing power, as well as to fight against low wages.
The head of YS Privat Anneli Nyberg is also critical of the fact that NHO was not more responsive to the labor side.
“We are concerned about the progress of the negotiations. Now there will be mediations after Easter, April 14 and 15. If there is no more progress during mediation than what we have seen so far, there is a risk of a strike, he says.
“Higher profits for owners, higher bonuses and high salaries for executives show that employees have an opportunity to contribute to value creation,” says Nyberg.

If mediation fails to reach an agreement, the strike will begin on April 16 and the scope of the possible strike will be reported to the Ombudsman and the Norwegian National Health Service Public on Tuesday, April 11.
Two years in a row, most workers experienced price increases that were higher than wage increases. When our goal is to level the gap and ensure that Norwegian employees get their share of value creation, we cannot sit back and watch, says LO leader Peggy Hessen Følsvik.
“It is disappointing that the NHO did not want to meet with employees. That is why now we have to turn to the Ombudsman for help, hoping that we will reach an agreement there – he adds.
Increased purchasing power is a priority
LO's main demand is to ensure workers' participation in value creation and increased purchasing power, prioritizing equal pay and tackling low wages.
“Norwegian workers have taken responsibility for some difficult years for Norwegian working life, with the pandemic and high price increases. Many companies are now doing very well and profits are high. Then we take it for granted that employees should also contribute to creating this value, says the LO leader.
LO, YS and NHO will meet for mediation in the Riksmekleren on April 14, with the deadline to conclude negotiations at midnight on April 15. If no agreement is reached here, the strike will start on April 16.
There was a breach in the pay negotiations between LO/YS and NHO.
"The sum of the other party's expectations puts too much strain on many of our members," says managing director Ole Erik Almlid at NHO.
