Every day, 24 hours a day, truck drivers can meet inspectors from Statens vegvesen.

So far this year, more than 254 vehicles have visited checkpoints and 000 have been selected for extended checks.

“The main picture is that the heavy vehicles on Norwegian roads are in good condition, but we are seeing a higher percentage of trailer failures,” says Kjetil Wigdel of the Norwegian Road Administration.

Defects can be found in tires, brakes, overloading and load securing.

– Many drive an older rented trailer behind the tractor. You can imagine the lack of ownership means that livelihood will suffer, says Wigdel.

Driving and rest time

Of the 44 heavy vehicles inspected so far this year, we found faults and faults in 651. 25 of them had such serious defects that they were banned from use and 776 resulted in a report.

The Norwegian Road Administration checks whether drivers comply regulations regarding driving and rest time. So far, 8429 drivers have been checked, and 4150 of them have errors or omissions. 540 drivers were fined and 509 committed violations so serious that they were reported.

We want to stop those who do not comply with the law and regulations

– About 20 percent. vehicles that stop at our points are selected for a more thorough inspection. We find errors in almost 60% of them. The fact that so many selected for inspection contain errors and deficiencies proves that we choose the right vehicles and drivers. We want to stop those who do not comply with the law and regulations, and who may pose a threat to themselves and other road users. Then those who have everything in order can safely carry out their transports. Fortunately, the vast majority of heavy vehicles on Norwegian roads are fine, says Wigdel.
