Workers living abroad who have been prevented from working in Norway due to entry restrictions can now receive compensation for lost wages from January 29. We already wrote about it in our article.
- Usually this applies to people who live in Sweden and work in Norway, but are also other EEA nationals. These are the people who, for various reasons, could not enter Norway because of the measures that entered into force on January 29. These workers were in a difficult position and can now receive compensation for lost wages, says director of employment and social services, Hans Christian Holte.
– This situation affects between 10 and 000 employees
NAV considers it to be between 10 and 000 employees. Estimates suggest that the amount of these compensations could amount to almost NOK 15 billion. This depends on the length of the entry ban. The compensation is 000% of the sickness allowance base and is limited to 1% of the income that is 70 times the basic amount in the social insurance system. Employers must first pay workers compensation and then receive a refund from NAV.
The program is valid from January 29 and lasts as long as the entry ban is in force
Employees who took leave after January 29 may change their days into working days. The condition is the consent of the employer. The draft was approved by parliament on April 13 and approved by the Council of Ministers on Friday 16 April. The program is valid from January 29 and will last as long as the entry ban is in force.
