Babka Easter is a traditional pastry that is popular in Poland, Russia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Ukraine. It is baked in the shape of a round or rectangular loaf and often has distinctive relief patterns on the top.
Easter cake is usually eaten during the Easter holidays, along with other traditional dishes such as stuffed eggs, sausage, horseradish and egg salad. In Poland, Easter cake is considered a symbol of life and rebirth, which reflects Christian beliefs related to Easter, which is a celebration of the resurrection of Christ.
Ingredients:
- 500 g wheat flour
- 1 cube of yeast (approx. 42 g)
- 250 ml milk
- 150 g of
- 4 eggs
- 1 yolk
- 150 g butter
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- zest of one lemon
- dried fruit (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare a solution of yeast and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Crumble yeast and mix with sugar, then add about 100 ml of warm milk. Leave to rise for about 15 minutes.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add to them the risen leaven, the rest of the milk, eggs, yolk and lemon zest. Mix everything thoroughly.
- Then add room temperature butter and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until it is elastic and smooth. The dough should pull away from your hands and bowl. You can add dried fruits such as raisins, candied fruits, etc.
- Cover the bowl with a cloth and leave to rise for about 2 hours in a warm place.
- After the time has elapsed, the dough should double in size. Transfer them to a cake pan previously greased with butter and sprinkled with flour. Leave to rise for another 30-40 minutes.
- Put the form in the oven preheated to 180 degrees C and bake for about 50-60 minutes. Remove the baked cake from the oven and let it cool down before serving.
Easter baba is a delicious and aromatic dish that will be perfect for the Easter table. You can serve it with butter or honey, and decorate it, for example, with powdered sugar or nuts and dried fruit. Enjoy your meal!
