Tolls for using roads around Oslo also for electric cars.

Until now, electric car owners have been exempt from road tolls on roads around Oslo. This privilege inevitably comes to an end, and many drivers are slowly accepting this idea. However, the amount of these tolls may be surprising, which in 2025 may amount to as much as 71 crowns for a ride on the Barum-Oslo route. This is what was written in the new transport development program in the capital of Norway for 2017-2036, the so-called "Oslopakke 3".

How will the fees increase?

From March 1, 2019, tolls will be charged on the Barum - Oslo route according to the new amount thresholds. It has been estimated that the daily cost of travel on this section will be around CZK 30. However, this is not the end of the increases, because in 2020 it will be an expense of 45 kroner a day. The upper limit will be reached in 2025 and it will cost 71 crowns a day to use this road.

Electric cars - the future or a curiosity?

Cheaper than with any other vehicle

Although the amount of the daily rate for using this section of the road is quite high, which raises a lot of reservations on the part of drivers, they still remain lower than the fees charged to owners of cars equipped with gasoline or diesel engines. For owners of such cars, the new daily rate, which will apply from October 1 this year, will be CZK 77.

Changes as a result of "Oslopakke 3"

The end of the privilege for owners of electric vehicles is the result of the implementation of the transport development program in the Norwegian capital for 2017-2036, also known as "Oslopakke 3". A lot of changes are expected in it, incl. an increase in the number of gates where fees will be charged. Currently there are 29 of them, with 83 expected in the future. The program also stipulates that increases in tolls will generate additional revenue of more than 25 billion kronor over 20 years.

Charges also for electric cars. Controversy around "Oslopakke 3"

Some critics of the new program raise the argument that not all funds collected as a result of the new ones road tolls will be spent on road investments. They note that if the newly acquired funds were directly related to road investments, the increase would not cause so much controversy. In its current form, however, it makes sense to introduce new ones tolls are not understood by road users, which causes their reluctance to pay them.

Part of funds for railway investments

As stated in the program, not all undertakings financed from these funds will be road-based. The "Oslopakke 3" includes, inter alia, investments related to the Lorenbanen metro line and the Follobanen railway line (on the Oslo S - Ski section), as well as the extension and modernization of the E18 and E16 roads.
